PM said the Government is opening up more paths in higher education. It will increase full-time places for applied degrees. Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and SIM University (UniSIM) will be made Singapore's fifth and sixth universities. This will increase current full-time university intake, and enable 40% of each cohort to go to university by 2020, up from 27% today.
Government will also give more support to part-time students. Besides making more part-time places available, Government bursaries and loans will be extended to UniSIM part-time students, so that they get the same support as part-time students in NUS and NTU. MOE will announce details later.
